Pogo Linux Debuts Powerful New 8-way Server for Enterprise-Class Computing

PerformanceWare 5870 Accelerates Performance, Streamlines Management

BOSTON – April 5, 2006 -- Incorporating insight and feedback from its close work with customers, Pogo Linux today introduced the Pogo Linux PerformanceWare 5870 at the LinuxWorld Conference & Expo in Boston. The Linux server vendor’s latest 8-way system is enhanced by new architecture to harness the fastest AMD Opteron processors available and handle compute-intensive applications – while new chassis design makes maintenance easier than ever.

Building on the success of its predecessor, the Pogo Linux PerformanceWare 5864, the new system supports eight dual-core CPUs for a total of 16 processing units. Additional HyperTransport links enable the system’s processors to be connected for even faster processor and memory communication that supports near-linear scaling. The Pogo Linux PerformanceWare 5870 features PCI Express interconnect support for high-end Fibre Channel and Infiniband PCI cards, making the server ideal for clustered configurations. And improved chassis design allows better airflow and is simpler to service, once deployed.

“Our customers want the high performance and streamlined management associated with enterprise-class computing – but without a high-end system’s price-tag,” said Erik Logan, chief technology officer of Pogo Linux. “That’s why our updated 8-way system packs the sheer power and memory to support incredibly demanding applications, in a form factor that’s easier to maintain.”

From manufacturing to scientific research, companies increasingly require high-power processing capabilities to support functions ranging from automation of digital design to compilation of extremely sophisticated software programs. As applications and processor design become more complex, Pogo Linux offers customers reliable, cost-effective solutions to their compute-intensive processing requirements.

Based on our experience with Pogo Linux products and very attentive support, we expect that this latest solution will address the needs of companies like ours – namely, cost-effective, high-performance computing made possible by high-quality hardware for our Linux environment,” said Adam Wiggins, Chief Technology Officer, Bitscribe.

Availability

Available in Q2 2006, the Pogo Linux PerformanceWare 5870 will be compatible with various versions of Linux, including Red Hat Enterprise, CentOS, and Fedora Core. The starting price for a well equipped system is $24,999. For more information, contact .
