Intel "Penryn" Xeon
5400 Processors available now!

As part of Pogo Linux's ongoing effort to provide solutions that are sensitive to power usage, the company is proud to offer its customers the latest release of power-saving Xeon processors from Intel, also known as "Penryn".

Penryn Xeons are Intel's first product on a 45 nanometer architecture. The processors use halfnium as an insulator to help minimize
the electricity leakage that occurs when power jumps off of the metal path on a circuit.

Pogo Linux has updated all servers which use Intel Xeon processors to reflect the immediate availability of the Penryn 45nm Xeons.
The company will soon launch two new servers featuring the new Intel "San Clemente" chipset, which saves power by using DDR
memory instead of power-intensive fully buffered memory.

FAQ about Intel Penryn Xeon processors and Intel San Clemente chipset:

1. What's the difference between the Penryn and the San Clemente?

Penryn refers to Intel processors made with 45 nanometer wafers. San Clemente is a chipset from Intel that uses DDR memory instead of Fully Buffered Memory. San Clemente can accept Penryn processors and older Xeon processors in the same LGA771 socket form factor. Both were launched on November 12, 2007.

2. How much faster are the new Intel Penryn Xeon processors?

According to Intel, the Penryn Xeons will be about 28% faster than their previous generation in SPECint_rate2006 and about 30% faster on SPECfp_rate2006.

3. How many cores are in the Penryn Xeons?

All the Penryn Xeons are available as dual core and quad core.

4. What's special about the Penryn Xeons from past Xeons?

The Penryn processors include new instructions, known as Penryn New Instructions and new fabrication materials, most significantly hafnium. Cache sizes have also been increased: up to 6MB on dual core versions and up to 12MB on quad core versions.
