These are the first x86-architecture server processors built on 7nm technology, enabling AMD to double the core-density. With up to 64 cores/128 threads per socket, this new design offers 8 independent processor dies, along with an independent I/O die. The new Epyc 7002 Series also offers the most I/O and memory bandwidth in its class, with 8 memory channels supporting 3200 MHz DIMMs.

The 2nd gen AMD Epyc comes with up to 64 cores, which generates performance traditionally reserved for dual-socket systems. This is doubly significant, considering the possible savings on software licensing. You can now configure a system to perform comparably to a traditional dual-socket server, while obtaining massive savings on per-socket software licenses.

As soon as the system is powered up, the AMD EPYC™ processor secure root of trust is already protecting your data by cryptographically validating the entire software stack as it loads. The ‘hardened at the core’ new AMD server CPU uses 509 unique encryption keys, which are managed by a dedicated security processor. This makes it possible to individually encrypt every virtual machine and hypervisor running on the server. Additionally, an encrypted register state protects against memory leaks, while secure I/O secures encrypted network traffic all the way to the disk.
