QuantaStor Software-Defined Storage was developed with advanced storage grid technology enabling storage servers to be combined across sites, yet managed as a single unit. Storage Grid Technology

QuantaStor’s storage grid technology is a built-in federated management system which enables servers to be combined together, simplifying management and automation via CLI and REST APIs. This built in grid technology reduces the complexity of managing storage at scale, with no additional software to install, set up, or maintain. Capacity planning, security management and provisioning has never been faster or simpler. It also enables QuantaStor appliances to easily work together to solve complex challenges for a variety of applications and workflows. Simplified Management

The layered architecture of QuantaStor gives solution engineers unprecedented flexibility and application design options. Workload performance and fault-tolerance are maximized for a wide range of storage workloads. QuantaStor's flexible storage pool architecture supports the use of two underlying pool types to address varying data velocity and throughput scenarios. ZFS technology is utilized, making these scale out storage servers ideal for both IOPS intensive and general workloads. Scale-out clusters utilize Ceph technology which is ideal for applications requiring S3 object storage. With the ability to scale to 100PB, QuantaStor is an ideal solution for big data workloads.

End-to-End Security

QuantaStor includes end-to-end security features to enable multi-layer data protection “on the wire” and “at rest,” ideal for cloud storage deployments and enterprise applications. Combine protocol-level encryption with SMB, IPsec, and HTTPS on any storage grid, hardware and software drive encryption with Intel AES-NI technology, and user security features such as role-based access controls. QuantaStor end-to-end security is perfect for almost any application.

  • User Security - QuantaStor features Advanced User Security which masks user permissions and allows administrators to grant user permissions at the storage object level, to all objects in the user's associated cloud(s) or even to the entire system. These features go way beyond basic Role Based Access Control (RBAC).
  • Data Security - For data-at-rest, QuantaStor features “one-click” full drive software encryption, using Intel AES-NI technology plus FIPS 140-2 self-encrypting drive support on certified hardware.
  • Grid Security - All storage grid management and data replication communications are encrypted using SSL/TLS 1.2 with especially strong ciphers.
  • Security Policy Enforcement - HIPAA and CJIS compliant password and security policy enforcement is intrinsically built into the platform. This makes it easy to ensure compliance with government mandated standards of data security.
  • Client Security - For on-the-wire data, QuantaStor provides encryption via SMB3, IPSec, and HTTPS. For iSCSI storage, QuantaStor uses Challenge-Handshake Authentication Protocol (CHAP). Utilizing CHAP for storage volumes, user levels and storage clouds allows for easier management and enhanced SAN security.
  • Data Shredding - Storage pools are permanently deleted with data shredding options including the 4-pass DoD 5220 22-M section 8-306 procedure, 4-pass NNSA Policy Letter NAP-14.1-C procedure, and the US Army AR380-19 method. Shredding occurs at block level on each disk device concurrently across all disks in the storage pool. Enabled encryption keys can also be securely shredded
