To get the most from the syGlass application, a properly configured workstation will make a world of difference. Aside from a compatible VR headset, the system should have a minimum of 32 GB of system memory, and an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080 or better GPU. Once the hardware foundation is established, the application is installed and configured for the end user’s chosen VR system and workload. This guarantees an engaging user experience, right out of the box.

One of the biggest advantages of running syGlass is how remarkably easy it is to use. The latest microscopes and data gathering techniques provide unprecedented detail for biologists, but the resultant 3D data was incredibly difficult and time consuming to interpret on a flat 2D computer monitor. For example, notating anomalous cells in a large MRI scan used to take weeks, and the findings were difficult to visually represent on an ordinary LED screen. Annotation tasks become intuitive, simple, and incredibly precise. This allows researchers to get to their results much sooner. The partnership between Pogo Linux and IstoVisio evolved organically, as the founders of IstoVisio were well pleased with the quality and performance of the Pogo desktops they’d been using in their research lab. At the same time, they were encountering customers that were eager to start using syGlass, but were trying to run it on off-the-shelf computers. These PCs often did not have adequate hardware configurations for good VR performance. They also tended to lack sufficient support when difficulties arose with their hardware. This situation created a perfect opportunity to set up a partnership.
